Canvas Conversations with Stitching with Stacey
Stacey Hursen, founder of Stitching with Stacey Needlepoint Designs, is a structural engineer living and working in NYC with a passion for needlepoint! Growing up in Pittsburgh, Stacey was surrounded by all types of fiber arts starting at young age as her Mom worked at a yarn store. It wasn’t until Spring 2020, during the pandemic, that her love of needlepoint really grew. She later launched her own canvas designs the following year. Running the business from her small NYC apartment, she loves how the creativity of needlepoint designing balances out her analytical engineering job. Stacey’s canvases are inspired by all the places and things she loves. She hopes you love them
too!

Favorite needlepoint project: My favorite needlepoint project to date is a large coquina shell canvas from Grande Stitches. It’s one of the largest canvases I have ever stitched and I just love all of the colors! I plan finishing it as a bag.
On your needlepoint Wishlist: On my Wishlist is the Mexican bird embroidery canvas by PLD Designs and all of the Alice Peterson French animals. I think I would finish them all as pillows!
Dream stitching spot: On a lounge chair by the pool or beach – preferably in Boca Grande, FL. In NYC, I like stitching on my apartment building’s rooftop.
13 or 18 Mesh Canvas: Definitely 13 count for larger canvases! I don’t mind 18 mesh for smaller canvases, but I probably wouldn’t stitch a large 18 count canvas (although I have some in my stash so we shall see!)
Last book you read and liked
The last book I read was “All the Beauty in the World” by Patrick Bringley. It was an engagement gift I received after getting engaged at the MET.
Favorite flower: Orchids, peonies, and dahlias
Guilty pleasure: Extra long showers or bubble baths and eating chocolate every day
On your nightstand: A glass of water, eye mask, and my Hatch alarm clock playing sleep sounds
Currently listening to: Taylor Swift – Love Folklore!
Currently watching: The Summer I Turned Pretty, Emily in Paris, The Office, and Dance Moms (lol)
If there were more hours in the day I would: Do more crafts! I am learning to sew with a sewing machine and I would love to crochet a
purse.
Favorite places to shop: I always see something I want from Sezane, Brooks Avenue, Buru, Frances Valentine, and John Derian.
Favorite Color: It’s always changing, but I always loved coral and I’m really liking light green and chartreuse currently.
Can’t leave the house without: Lip balm – my favorite is FOUR Organics Lip Balm
Coffee or tea: Tea – I have hot black tea most mornings and love to pick a strawberry matcha up in the afternoon.
Favorite holiday to celebrate: I always joke my favorite holiday is Black Friday because I love shopping! Otherwise, I’d say Christmas because I danced in the Nutcracker ballet every year and now it’s a tradition to see it every Christmas.
Wardrobe staples: A headband – I wear one almost every day!
Creative inspiration: My Mom – she is an avid knitter, crocheter, and needlepointer, among many other things!
Best piece of advice: Comparison is the thief of joy
Spirit Animal: I’d have to say a cat! Nothing better than taking a cat nap in afternoon.
