Fellow needlepointer Nan Philip is a public relations, marketing and strategy consultant for interior designers and lifestyle brands. Nan is also one of my favorite Instagram follows! She is a tastemaker when it comes to her classic style and aesthetic that is found not only on her Instagram feed, but also on her blog, Simply Elegant. Nan lives in Boston, Massachusetts.
We sat down with Nan to ask her 20 Questions:
Favorite needlepoint project is almost always my current project! Right now I am working on my Thorn Alexander backgammon board that I found from Greystone Needlepoint! It is such a beautiful design and Shannon, from Greystone, helped me find the perfect Silk & Ivory fiber colors. (Fingers crossed it just doesn’t take me ages to finish – it is certainly the largest canvas I have ever worked on.)
On your needlepoint Wishlist I love August Morgan’s cheeky cocktail napkins so I was thrilled to see she has now released needlepoint canvases – her ‘Shell We Have Another’ is on my list to stitch this summer. How cute would they be finished as acrylic coasters? I also love the florals and pastel hues in this Sampler Pillow.
Dream stitching spot Anywhere by the ocean
13 or 18 Mesh Canvas 13!
Last book you read and liked I just finished The Sister in Law by Sue Watson. (My genre of choice are chic-lit mysteries!)
Favorite flower Peonies
Guilty pleasure Needlepoint & Reality TV
Currently listening to NPR 5-Minute National Newscast when I get ready each morning (the perfect small dose of important news) and then any type of country music on Spotify.
Currently watching Re-watching West Wing on Netflix and always binging my favorite guilty pleasure, Real Housewives
If there were more hours in the day I would have more time to needlepoint and watch trashy tv ;) Or update my blog more regularly.
Favorite places to shop Ohh goodness, too many! So to narrow it down here are some smaller female founded businesses I love right now:
• Follain for clean skincare and beauty
Favorite Instagram follows – oh so hard! Lets see…some of my favorite gals on Instagram that I am always DMing with are the following:
Coffee or tea Coffee, with almond milk.
• Ballet Flats in a range of hues – my favorites are from Margaux• Classic T-Shirts in neutral colors – my go-to is ATM Anthony Thomas Melillo • Straight Leg Jeans in a range of washes – I love Good American (a brand I feel like no one talks about…but for me they fit really well.) • A few great blazers & wool jackets - I love Veronica Beard, Henning & Theory• Both a White and Blue Denim Jackets – J.Crewdoes the trick just fine, no need to splurge here. • Black dresses & skirts for fancier occasions – Pearl by Lela Rose or Tory Burch• Cashmere sweaters (always worth the splurge) - from La Ligne and Jenni Kayne• Some fun block-print patterns for vacation - CJ Laing and Emerson Fry• A few pops of pattern – I would buy everything from Ulla Johnson if I could… • Tortoise sunglasses – I wear this Celine style • A few great leather designer handbags
Best piece of advice Try to treat everyone with the same level of kindness, dignity and respect; from the intern or the gal at the front desk to the owner of the company. Because one day, that young girl answering the phones is going to be running her own company and she is going to remember the people who took the time to learn her name.
Style Crush Ali MacGraw (especially as Jenni Cavilleri in Love Story), Gucci Westman, Amanda Brooks, and Ann Mashburn
