Canvas Conversations: Virginia Hunt

Virginia Hunt lives in Chicago with her husband Rob, their golden retriever Mac, and two cats, Louis and Daisy. When not working in real estate tax law at a global law firm, she enjoys needlepointing, yoga, reading, walking her dog, exploring new restaurants, and traveling.

Virginia learned how to needlepoint when she was a freshman in college, and her first project was a hobby belt for her brother. She stitched consistently through college, took about five years off from needlepoint, and started back in 2018. She enjoys following other people’s needlepoint accounts and decided to create her own on New Years Eve in 2018. Virginia loves sharing ideas, experiences, and advice with other needlepointers.

Follow along Virginia's stitching projects on Instagram here. Continue reading for my Q&A with Virginia below.

Favorite needlepoint project. I love my “We can’t change the wind but we can adjust our sails” pillow. I love how it turned, out but I love the quote more.

On your needlepoint wishlist. Sailor's Valentine Ship, Needlepoint is my Therapy, Reggie the Retriever, Housework Makes you Ugly

Dream stitching spot. The Gasparilla Inn.

13 or 18 Mesh Canvas. 13! 18 kills my eyes sometimes.

Last book you read and liked. I recently finished Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister and loved it.

Favorite flower. Tulips.

Guilty pleasure. I eat a ton of candy and have paid for it at the dentist.

On your nightstand. My kindle, an extra bright lamp for stitching, and aquaphor.

Currently listening to. All the bravo podcasts. Watch What Crappens is my favorite, I have seen them live three times.

Currently watching. Everything on bravo. Bravo is my religion.

If there were more hours in the day I would. Walk my dog more and do yoga more. Exercise always falls by the wayside for me.

Favorite places to shop. Jcrew, Tuckernuck, and Hill House for clothes. Antique stores for home goods.

Favorite Instagram follows. Needlepoint follows: @uppereaststitches, @bluehydranegastitcher, @cyrstalcoastneedlepointer, @nan.needlepoint, I could go on and on... Non-needlepoint follows: @nelliediamond, @nan.philip, @things.i.bought.and.liked, @erinnobrienn, Again, I could go on for days...

Can’t leave the house without. My airpods and aquaphor!

Coffee or tea. Coffee.

Favorite holiday to celebrate. I love celebrating the whole Christmas season.

Wardrobe staples. Jeans, white blouse, Superga sneakers.

Creative inspiration. I get a lot of inspiration from my mom. She has the best eye for clothing, design, antiques, everything. She is also kind, selfless, and strong - a great role model.

Best piece of advice. Be gracious. You never know what someone is going through.

Life mantra. Try to have more good days than bad days.
